August 2001

This photo shows me in 1951 after throwing a rod on a very cold  Iowa morning, probably due to ice in the oil. A new rod solved the problem.  I bought the car for $40, drove it for a year, then sold it for $40 for college money.  Sigh...

PS.  I replaced the rod myself with the aid of a high school buddy. Rented weekend UNHEATED space in a gas station with an oil changing pit for $5, and we got that blueflame 6 running again by school on Monday. Unfortunately, the car had no heater, so it was one long and cold winter, driving it back and forth to my HS job as a supermarket carryout boy.
